Darkness vs Light

Someone took the time today to ask me my favorite hymn and then sent me a link on facebook to the video I shared with you above. It made my day and it also made me really think about a scripture in Ephesians that tells us that we can make either a positive or a negative (light or dark) difference in the life of someone else by the things we say or do. Here is the scripture:

Ephesians 5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14 for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said:

“Wake up, O sleeper,

rise from the dead,

and Christ will shine on you.”

15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. 19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

I was talking with someone yesterday who is going through a very difficult and lonely time and their biggest disappointment was that not one single person had reached out to them with an act of kindness to ease their burden. It broke my heart because I can easily be one of those people – so caught up in my own life and stuff  – that I forget and sometimes ignore the Holy Spirit’s promptings to lift up someone who may need a little help or  encouragement.

I am writing this today as a reminder to all of us. Take a few minutes today and ask the Lord who He would have you reach out to with a small token of kindness, a word, a song. It can make such a difference in someone’s life and help by dispelling the darkness of this world that is always trying to engulf us.  Let’s not forget to walk as children of light and make an effort to find out what pleases the Lord and stop using busyness as an excuse! Heed the word of the Lord making the most of every opportunity! Take time to encourage someone today!

Under His wing,

Linda

Amen Linda……I love this worship song and it’s one of my favorite ones to play as well. Our worship team is filling in for John this Friday at worship night and this is one of the songs that Helen picked for us to do. Praise God for His grace and mercy to us all ! May we be as gracious to those around us as He has been toward us !

  2. Linda says:

Amen I love when God does that! Remember me in prayer when you play it on Friday! God Bless you!

Hi Linda. This post is an important reminder to all that we are to be a city set upon a hill; sharing Jesus both in word and deed to a world where despair is rampant. Likewise to life up one another as we are all facing a single enemy who continuously seeks to devour us. As you mention, it’s ever so easy to become so busy with our obligations that we fail to see the needs of those in our ambience. Thanks for a much needed reminder.

    Blessings always in Jesus name.

Timbob thank you so much for your comments. We are finished with camp now and about 50 kids asked Jesus to be their Lord and Savior in the two weeks we had them here! Many of the young Christian’s are committed to growing stronger in their walk and we are tired but so happy for the gift and priviledge of presenting the Gospel message to so is ho thmany young people. What a wonderful Christmas time this has been for me without all the distractions I used to have in the way this time of day. I am still a little homesick but happy to be moving past the need for all the trimmings that have become attached to this holiday! Solo Christo Salvo! Have a blessed Christmas with your family!!!!

What a wonderful reminder, dear one. Someone came to mind immediately, and I shall call them as soon as I post this. I sure miss you, but know you are in the palm of our dear Lord’s hand. God Bless and Keep YOU.
