That the world might know Him!

Jesus Prays for All Believers

20“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: 23I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

The week before Easter here is called Santa Semana or Holy week and it is celebrated for 4 days. Offices and schools are closed from Thursday until Monday and the Holy days are respected and a time for family and church. Many churches offer retreats for the young people and we were involved in a number of retreats with the local churches that we work with. I was able to go on two retreats last week and what a wonderful time  it was for me. My dear friend Katie, who is a sponsor of some of the missionaries here,  went with us on the first one but had to go back to the United States and wasn’t able to go on the second one.

Martha, one of the young people from Santa Ana and Katie

The first retreat was at a beautiful resort  close to where our camp property is located. We were with about 40 young people and their youth leaders from a church called Templo Biblico Getsemane in Santa Ana. The time was full of great teaching by one of our staff missionaries and plenty of time for fun in the pool and fellowship. The food was excellent.

Living on the property we stayed at is a family with a little girl. The couple is not married and have been together about two years and the man clearly remembers when the Word of Life staff used this resort in 2007 for their annual staff retreat. During the time we were there the little girl Tatiana watched us closely but with a sad look and you could tell that she was not allowed to “bother the guests”. Fiorella, the daughter of one of the missionary couples  and I spent lots of time playing together and we invited Tatiana to join us – her sad look turned to joy and we ran around the field chasing a litter of puppies and having many other adventures together. The following day during our morning devotional time we asked the Lord for an opportunity to share the Gospel with Tatiana and God granted our request. With the permission of her mother we shared the gospel with Tatiana and even Fiorella who will be five in a few weeks took a turn at telling her about God’s love and the gift of heaven and eternal life that can only be found through Christ! Tatiana made the decision to follow Christ that day!

Fiorella and Tatiana – sisters in Christ!

This morning I was thinking about all that happened this week and I was reminded by the Holy Spirit to pray for little Tatiana and her decision to follow Christ. Just as Jesus asked the Father in His prayer for us – she saw Him in us and wanted to be with us – we became one in Christ! You could visibly see new life and joy springing up in her heart after she made the decision to ask for forgiveness and follow Jesus! She even went into her home after this time with us and talked to her parents about the Lord.  Later on in the day one of the missionaries was able to speak to the parents as well. Please pray the seeds that were planted in their lives will be watered and will grow and that Tatiana  will become the young woman God has planned for her to be  and that  perhaps she will be making a difference in another young girl’s life one day by sharing her faith in Jesus with them.
What a great privilege it is to serve the Lord!

Under His wing,

Linda
