This is a picture of my friend Lorraine and her foster daughter Jenny. Lorraine is a missionary here and is the director of the ministry Hannah’s Hands http://hannahshands.org. One day when Lorraine was working in a government building here in El Salvador, little Jenny came up to her and called her mama. After picking up the child and asking a few questions she learned that the girl was being held by the state because her mother was picked up trying to traffic the child using false documents. By the end of the day the little girl was going home with Lorraine and Lorraine was her new foster-mother. After living with and loving this child for two years ( there is no such thing as foster love – it is the same love as if this child was born to her) the government made a phone call and presented a few documents to her and in 4 days the child was gone again, supposedly back to the birth mother and headed for Guatemala. Lorraine has had no peace about the removal of her child from her home so abruptly and without a lot of her questions being answered. The people who gave the child to her so readily took her away just as quickly and she has not been able to get answers since.
So tomorrow Lorraine and I are leaving for Guatemala. We are going to be looking for information on Jenny’s whereabouts and hopefully Lorraine will have some answers after months of hearing nothing. Please keep us in your prayers and pray especially for little Jenny. For her safety, well-being and spiritual growth. She is only 3 1/2 years old and has had a pretty traumatic life so far. She was a gift to Lorraine from God and God doesn’t make mistakes so we can trust that He is in control of this and every situation in our lives. Please pray that He would give us direction, peace and some answers for Lorraine. He is the only one that can open doors no one can shut and close doors that no one can open. Our family is not just the family we are born into. When we are born again we enter into the family of God which encompasses many more relationships and some of them are a little hard to understand but He has His purposes.
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers
Matthew 12:46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”g 48He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
With Mother’s Day coming up in the United States this weekend, please spend some time thinking about your own Mom and those other special “moms” God has given you and pray for them and give God thanks for them. I know I am grateful for my mom and I am especially grateful that He allowed me to have her in my life for 47 years and for how she loved us and took excellent care of the family God committed to her care.
Thank you for your prayers and Happy Mothers Day!
Under His wing,
