Walking in the Light this Christmas!

Warm (hahahaha literally!) greetings from El Salvador!!!! Always at this time of year our hearts turn toward Home, cherished family, friends and memories of Christmas past and for me it is no different. These days my thoughts have turned to my family and friends back home praying  all have had a year as full and glorious as this past year has been for me in my life here!

The days are continuing to grow darker faster than ever before and our Lord gives us our marching orders and commands us to walk in the light. His word tells us in Isaiah 60:1“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. 2 See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the people, but the Lord rises upon you and His glory appears over you. 3 Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn. And in Daniel 12: 3  we can read Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.

In John 8:12 Jesus himself tells us “I am the light of the world. He that follows me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life.” and exactly how are we to walk in the light? God tells us in Ephesians 5:8 For you were once darkness but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the spirit is all goodness, righteousness and truth.) Finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather expose them.

So as we prepare to gather together to celebrate the birth of our beloved Savior shine brightly for Him in all you say and do as a shining witness of His love and transforming power so that those who don’t yet know Him will be drawn to His light that they see in you!

God has opened many new doors for ministry this year for me. I am still working 2 days a week in the medical clinic at my church. I am also working one day and one evening a week in a men’s rehabilitation ministry. Some of the men are ex gang members, there are also men suffering from abuse of alcohol and drugs. I cannot describe the time God permits me to spend with these men watching the Lord lead them back to living their lives in His light and to see the darkness lose the hold it has over their lives. Sometimes it can be sad too! In my short time there ( three months now) 32 men have entered the program and gone back to the streets! The bible tells us this will happen because men love the darkness more than light and without the supernatural help of the Holy Spirit residing in us at the moment we believe with all of our heart that Christ is our Savior we cannot ever truly be set free. The darkness will always have a hold on us apart from Him. I am also privileged to be part of a team called “New Works” at church and twice a year for 8 weeks we go to a church in a small village that is working with the Compassion International program and we give parenting classes to the moms and dads of the children in the program. Many of them are not yet believers and it is a wonderful opportunity to share the love of Christ and at the same time give them practical help in raising children to grow up safe and healthy with limits in a country riddled with gang violence that takes many young lives at an early age. Every day here brings a new opportunity to shine the love of Christ!

I thank God for all of you and pray the year ahead will be our best one ever winning more souls for Christ by shining His light as we wait with expectation of the soon appearing of our glorious hope, our Lord Jesus Christ. Have a blessed time with your family and friends and make new memories that you can remember with gladness next year if the Lord tarries!!!

Under His wing,
