Tia Ana and some of her “kids”
2 Corinthians 3 :1 Do we begin again to commend ourselves? Or do we need, as some others, epistles of commendation to you or letters of commendation from you? 2 You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men; 3 clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.
2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as [b]by the Spirit of the Lord.
The Light of Christ’s Gospel
2 Corinthians 4:1 Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. 2 But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor [a]handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. 5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
This year once again a friend with a huge heart came from the states this Thanksgiving to pour into the lives of children living in a home with a woman with a huge heart for abandoned kids. She is known to the children as Tia Ana and her name is Ana Judith Lara. She is one of my real life role models! She grew up in extremely difficult circumstances and the Lord rescued her out of them and she felt with all her heart she wanted to help rescue children whose mothers work in the sex trade to prevent what happened to her from happening to other children. So more than 20 years ago she started receiving kids in a house with only three walls and aluminum. the children slept on the floor on cardboard and plastic bags were their covers. A Pastor discovered her there and began to help by looking for another place for her to live and providing food for the kids which he and his church have done to this day. At another point in her life another generous and loving couple came into her life and began to help her looking for supporters for the children and their individual needs and just three years ago started bringing teams from the states to build a huge house for her and the kids which they will shortly to move into. Hopefully we will all celebrate Christmas in this new home. There are many volunteers here in El Salvador including me and some friends from my church that also have been called along side of Tia to share her burdens and celebrate her joys.
Tia Ana’s face shines when she is surrounded by her kids as you can see in the picture. Her face reflects the light of Christ into the lives of each one of these kids. She is raising them alone with no other adult in the house to help to clean, cook, wash clothes and with 16 kids in the house ranging in ages from 5 to 18 so you can imagine how difficult that is at 61 years of age. Over the years she has raised over 80 children abandoned by their parents.
This morning after finishing my devotional time with the Lord and reflecting over these last 4 days with Tia the children and my friends I came upon one of the verses above on face book and began reading in 2 Corinthians Chapter 3 and continuing on to Chapter 4. I began to cry and talk to the Lord about my own light and realized my need for His help to make me shine better for Him.! I asked Him to forgive my sometimes judgmental and critical attitudes, I asked Him to make me shine like His son does and eliminate selfishness and pride and all the other things that hinder me from being a brighter light for Him. That is going to be my goal for this Christmas and for the coming year. I am going to spend this month reflecting on this past year and mediating on these verses and listen for the instructions of my Master, Jesus on how to finish this year well and begin the next reflecting His love to others brighter and better with His kind of love so that all the honor and glory goes to Him and others are drawn to know Him and experience the only true love that exists!
Happy Thanks Giving
Under His wings,
